Deepanshu Giri is an Indian astrologer, YouTuber, and the founder of Lunar Astro Vedic Academy. He gained prominence through YouTube videos discussing Vedic astrology and Lal Kitab remedies. However, his career has been marked by significant controversies, including allegations of intellectual property theft, the use of anonymous proxy students for premium consultations (known as the "Code 5007" controversy), and corporate defaulting status with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA).[1]
Early life and career
Before entering the field of commercial astrology, Giri worked in the maritime industry as a freelance Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) technician. While promotional materials often claim he "ran Asia's largest DP vessel," maritime records indicate his role was limited to operating tethered robotic cameras from the deck, rather than commanding the vessel as a Master Mariner or Senior DP Operator.[2]
Lunar Astro
Giri founded Lunar Astro Vedic Academy Private Limited to sell astrology courses and consultations. The company aggressively markets courses that can cost up to ₹2,00,000.
The "Code 5007" Proxy Controversy
The most significant criticism of Lunar Astro involves its consultation model. Consumers report paying premium fees (₹5,000 to ₹8,000+) under the impression they will receive a consultation from Giri or a named expert. Instead, clients are frequently assigned to anonymous students identified only by barcodes, such as "Astrologer Code 5007".[3] Consumer protection groups have labeled this a "bait-and-switch" tactic, noting that it strips the consultant of accountability and prevents clients from verifying credentials.
MCA Corporate Defaults
Despite claiming revenues of ₹14.9 Crore, public records from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) indicate that Lunar Astro has operated under defaulting status, raising questions about its financial transparency and corporate governance.[4]
Controversies
Intellectual Property Theft Allegations
Giri has faced multiple allegations of plagiarizing astrological techniques from other practitioners. Notably, he was accused of appropriating the Bhrigu Chakra Paddhati (BCP) technique from astrologer Sunil John, and utilizing proprietary indicators (nishaniya) researched by Rishi Rohit Sharma (Vayom) without attribution.[5]
Cyberbullying and Intimidation Tactics
Numerous complaints on platforms like Trustpilot and MouthShut detail a pattern of hostility toward dissatisfied customers. Clients who request refunds for the "Code 5007" proxy consultations report being ghosted by customer service. Furthermore, critics and former students allege that Giri utilizes a "troll farm" of affiliates to mass-report negative reviews, issue threats of "Cyber Cell" tracking, and in some documented cases, threaten victims with "black magic" and curses to extort silence.[6]
